Ingredients (That's right, there's just 3!):
10-15 Brussels Sprouts
2 Tbsps Butter
3-4 Tbsps Sugar
Directions:
- Rinse the brussels sprouts while they are still whole
- Steam the Brussels sprouts for 5 minutes to get the cooking started
- Cut each Brussels sprout in half. This will allow for faster cooking and better overall sugar coating
- Melt the butter in a medium saute pan
- Add the steamed, cut Brussels sprouts to the pan and coat with the melted butter
- Sprinkle the sugar evenly over the Brussels sprouts and stir frequently, keeping in mind that the sugar will cause them to burn faster than normal
- Plate and serve when there's no more liquid butter and the Brussels sprouts have turned golden brown
This is a great recipe for children who don't like eating veggies. Start them out on this candied treat. Once they are hooked, slowly cut back on the sugar. It's saying a lot that my veggie-hating hubby has fallen in love with them.
For a savory version saute them in olive oil and garlic powder rather than butter and sugar until golden brown. All the other prep work is the same.
